Look Beyond the Classroom: The Extras That Matter

When you’re choosing a child care center, it’s easy to focus on the big things: the classroom, the teachers, the schedule and, of course, whether your little one seems happy.

But here’s something else worth taking a peek at: What happens beyond the typical day-to-day routine?

Some early learning programs are adding experiences like music, yoga, movement classes, sports and other enrichment activities right into the school day. And some centers are taking it even further with dedicated spaces like sensory gyms, where children can climb, balance, move, explore and engage their senses through purposeful play.

Why does it matter? Because little ones learn with their whole bodies. They’re building coordination, confidence, creativity, language and social skills while they’re busy thinking they’re just having fun.

So, the next time you tour a child care center, ask about the extras. Are enrichment programs included? Do outside instructors visit? Are there special spaces designed for movement or sensory play? What opportunities will your child have to experience something different during their week?

Sometimes it’s those little extras that make a child’s day feel pretty big.

Parenting. Play. Repeat.

Thanks for peeking. There’s always more to discover.
